Area Code 615 was a Nashville-based instrumental group that existed in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The band was made up of a group of session musicians who were among the most in-demand players in the Nashville recording scene at the time. The band's name comes from the telephone area code for Nashville and the surrounding area. The original lineup consisted of Charlie McCoy (harmonica), Wayne Moss (guitar), Mac Gayden (guitar), Norbert Putnam (bass), Kenny Buttrey (drums), and David Briggs (keyboards). Area Code 615 was known for their blend of rock, country, and jazz influences, and their improvisational style. They released two albums on the Polydor label in 1969 and 1970, both of which were well-received by critics and fans alike. The band's music has been described as "an essential bridge between the worlds of country and rock," and they were influential in the development of the "Southern rock" sound that would become popular in the 1970s. The band's members went on to play on countless recording sessions for some of the biggest names in country and rock music, including Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, and Simon & Garfunkel. Despite their relatively short career, Area Code 615 remains a beloved and influential band in the history of Nashville's music scene. Area Code 615 I (1969 - 1970)
Area Code 615 II (1970 - 1971)
