Argent was a British rock band that formed in 1969, and was active until 1976. The band was formed by Rod Argent, who was previously a member of the Zombies, and the band took its name from his surname. The original lineup of the band included Rod Argent on keyboards and vocals, Russ Ballard on guitar and vocals, Jim Rodford on bass guitar, and Bob Henrit on drums. The band's sound was a blend of rock, pop, and progressive rock, and they had a number of hits in the early 1970s. Argent's most famous song is probably "Hold Your Head Up", which was a hit single in both the UK and the US in 1972. The song features Rod Argent's distinctive keyboard work and a memorable chorus. Other popular songs by the band include "God Gave Rock and Roll to You", "Liar", and "Tragedy". In their early years, Argent released a series of successful albums, including their self-titled debut in 1970, followed by Ring of Hands (1971), All Together Now (1972), and In Deep (1973). However, the band disbanded in 1976 due to creative differences among its members. Rod Argent went on to have a successful solo career and also formed a new version of the Zombies, while Ballard became a successful songwriter and producer for other artists. In 2010, the surviving members of Argent reunited for a series of concerts, and they continue to perform together on occasion. Overall, Argent was an influential and innovative band of the 1970s that combined elements of hard rock, progressive rock, and classical music to create a unique and memorable sound. Their music remains popular with rock fans today, and their songs continue to be covered and sampled by other artists. Argent I (1969 - 1974)
