Black Oak Arkansas

Black Oak Arkansas is a Southern rock band that originated in the late 1960s in the town of Black Oak, Arkansas, USA. The band is known for their high-energy performances and frontman Jim "Dandy" Mangrum's flamboyant stage presence, including his wild hair, signature top hat, and eccentric costumes.

The band's original lineup consisted of Jim "Dandy" Mangrum (vocals), Rickie Lee Reynolds (guitar), Stanley Knight (guitar), Pat Daugherty (bass), Wayne Evans (drums), and Harvey Jett (guitar). They released their debut album, self-titled "Black Oak Arkansas" in 1971. The album featured their signature hit "Jim Dandy," which became a staple of classic rock radio.

Black Oak Arkansas went on to release a number of successful albums throughout the 1970s, including "Keep the Faith" (1972), "High on the Hog" (1973), and "Street Party" (1974), among others. They continued to tour extensively and gained a reputation as one of the most energetic and entertaining live acts of the era.

The band experienced several lineup changes over the years, with Mangrum and Reynolds remaining the only constant members. They continued to release albums and tour into the 21st century, though their popularity waned somewhat in the decades following their heyday.

Despite their relative obscurity in modern times, Black Oak Arkansas remains a beloved band among fans of Southern rock and classic rock. Their music is characterized by heavy guitar riffs, bluesy vocals, and a hard-driving, high-energy sound that still resonates with fans today.
