Bread was a soft rock band from Los Angeles, California, that was active primarily in the early 1970s. The band was formed in 1968 and consisted of David Gates (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Jimmy Griffin (vocals, guitar), Robb Royer (bass, guitar, flute), and Mike Botts (drums). Bread's music was known for its mellow, easy-listening sound, characterized by Gates and Griffin's harmonizing vocals and the band's acoustic guitar-driven melodies. Some of their most popular songs include "Make It With You," "Everything I Own," "If," and "Baby I'm-a Want You." These songs helped to define the soft rock sound of the early 1970s. In addition to their success as a band, David Gates also had a successful solo career. After leaving Bread, James Griffin went on to pursue a solo career and also worked as a songwriter and producer for other artists. Robb Royer continued to work as a musician and songwriter, and also produced and arranged music for other artists. Despite their short time in the limelight, Bread's music has continued to be popular with fans of easy-listening and soft rock, and their influence can still be heard in contemporary music today.
