The Buckinghams
The Buckinghams were an American rock band that emerged from Chicago in the mid-1960s. The band was formed in 1966 and originally called themselves The Pulsations. The original lineup consisted of Dennis Tufano (vocals), Carl Giammarese (guitar), Nick Fortuna (bass), Marty Grebb (keyboards), and John Poulos (drums).
The Buckinghams had a string of hit singles in the late 1960s, including "Kind of a Drag," "Don't You Care," "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy," and "Hey Baby (They're Playing Our Song)." These songs were characterized by their catchy melodies, tight harmonies, and the use of horns in the arrangements.
The band's success was largely due to the songwriting and producing team of James William Guercio and Dennis Miccolis. Guercio would later go on to produce the early albums of the band Chicago.
The Buckinghams were also known for their live performances, which featured energetic stage shows and elaborate costumes. They were particularly popular on the college circuit and played numerous concerts and festivals throughout the late 1960s.
The band disbanded in 1970, but has reformed several times over the years for various reunion shows and tours. Despite their relatively short career, The Buckinghams left an indelible mark on the music of the 1960s, and their songs continue to be popular today on classic rock radio stations and in various movies and TV shows.
