The Castaways were an American rock band that originated in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area in the early 1960s. The band is best known for their hit single "Liar, Liar," which was released in 1965 and reached #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The original lineup of the Castaways included Jim Donna on lead vocals, Roy Hensley on guitar, Dick Roby on bass, Robert Folschow on keyboards, and Dennis Craswell on drums. The band's early sound was heavily influenced by surf music and the British Invasion bands that were popular at the time. "Liar, Liar" was written by band member Jim Donna and quickly became a local hit in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. The song's infectious beat and catchy lyrics caught the attention of a national audience, and it was soon picked up by Soma Records, a small independent label based in Minneapolis. The song's success led to a deal with the larger record label, Wand Records, which re-released "Liar, Liar" and helped it become a nationwide hit. Despite the success of "Liar, Liar," the Castaways were unable to replicate their success with subsequent releases, and the band eventually disbanded in the late 1960s. However, "Liar, Liar" remains a classic of the garage rock genre and continues to be a favorite of rock fans around the world. Folschow sang the distinctive falsetto vocal on "Liar, Liar", and Dick Roby contributed the scream. -GSH The Castaways(1965 - 1968)
