Classics IV was an American pop and rock band that formed in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1965. The group is best known for their hit songs "Spooky," "Stormy," and "Traces," which were all released in the late 1960s. The original lineup of Classics IV consisted of Dennis Yost (lead vocals), James Cobb (guitar), Wally Eaton (bass), Joe Wilson (keyboards), and Kim Venable (drums). However, the band's lineup changed frequently over the years, with Yost being the only constant member. The band had a soft, easy-listening sound that was influenced by jazz and rhythm and blues. They were known for their use of horns and strings, and their songs often featured lush orchestration. "Spooky" was the band's biggest hit, reaching #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1968. "Stormy" and "Traces" also performed well, both reaching the top 10 on the charts. Despite their success, the band experienced several personnel changes and struggled to maintain their popularity in the 1970s. They disbanded in 1975, but Yost continued to perform under the Classics IV name with various lineups until his death in 2008. The Classics / The Classics IV I (1965 - ? )
