Jonathan Edwards is an American folk musician and singer-songwriter who rose to prominence in the early 1970s. He was born on July 28, 1946, in Aitkin, Minnesota, and grew up in Virginia and Ohio. Edwards learned to play the guitar at an early age and began performing in coffeehouses and folk clubs while attending college in Ohio. In 1971, Edwards signed a record deal with Atco Records and released his self-titled debut album. The album included his biggest hit single, "Sunshine," which peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. After a brief hiatus in the 1980s, Edwards returned to recording and performing in the 1990s and has continued to release albums and tour extensively. His later work has explored a range of musical styles, including blues, gospel, and Celtic music.
