Karla Bonoff is an American singer-songwriter who was born on December 27, 1951, in Santa Monica, California. She is best known for her emotionally powerful ballads and her rich, expressive voice. Bonoff began her music career in the 1970s, when she was a member of the Los Angeles folk-rock scene. She soon gained a reputation as a talented songwriter, and her songs were covered by a number of popular artists, including Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, and Wynonna Judd. Bonoff released her first album, titled "Karla Bonoff," in 1977. The album was well-received by critics and included some of her best-known songs, such as "Someone to Lay Down Beside Me" and "Home." Throughout her career, Bonoff has released several albums and has continued to write and perform her own music. Her songs are known for their heartfelt lyrics and melodic hooks, and her performances are often praised for their emotional intensity. Some of Bonoff's most popular songs include "All My Life," "Tell Me Why," "The Water is Wide," and "Wild Heart of the Young." She has also been recognized for her contributions to the music industry, including being inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 2017. Karla Bonoff has always been better known as a songwriter than as a performer (Linda Ronstadt recorded several of her songs). This is extremely unfortunate, because she has a beautiful expressive voice and is competent on both piano and guitar (I know, having seen her perform in Knoxville, Tennessee in the late '70s). -GSH The Daughters of Chester P.(1969)
