Katrina and the Waves were a British-American rock band formed in 1981. The group consisted of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Katrina Leskanich, lead guitarist Kimberley Rew, bassist Vince de la Cruz, and drummer Alex Cooper. The band's biggest hit was "Walking on Sunshine," released in 1985, which became an international chart-topper and remains a beloved pop classic to this day. The song was followed by another hit, "Do You Want Crying," which also charted in the US and UK. Katrina and the Waves went on to release several more albums, including "Break of Hearts" in 1989, which featured the hit single "That's the Way," and "Edge of the Land" in 1993. However, the band never achieved the same level of success as they did with "Walking on Sunshine." The group disbanded in the late 1990s, with Katrina Leskanich continuing to perform and record as a solo artist. In 1997, Katrina and the Waves re-formed for a one-off performance at the Eurovision Song Contest, which they won with the song "Love Shine a Light." Today, Katrina and the Waves are remembered as one of the defining pop-rock bands of the 1980s, known for their infectious melodies, upbeat rhythms, and Katrina Leskanich's powerful vocals.
