The Knack was an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1978. The band consisted of Doug Fieger on vocals and guitar, Berton Averre on lead guitar, Prescott Niles on bass, and Bruce Gary on drums. The Knack's debut album, "Get the Knack," was released in 1979 and was a massive success, reaching #1 on the Billboard 200 chart and spawning the hit singles "My Sharona" and "Good Girls Don't." "My Sharona" in particular was a phenomenon, spending six weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and becoming the biggest-selling single of 1979. Despite their initial success, The Knack was unable to maintain their popularity and subsequent albums did not perform as well. The band broke up in 1982, but reformed with different lineups over the years for occasional performances and recordings. Doug Fieger passed away in 2010 after a battle with cancer, but The Knack's music continues to be remembered and celebrated for its catchy, power-pop sound and influence on the rock music of the late 1970s and early 1980s. These guys are a seriously-great live rock and roll band, and they make everything they do sound fresh. Don't pass up the chance to see them perform! -GSH The Knack I (1978 - 1981)
