Mahogany Rush is a Canadian rock band that was formed in Montreal in 1970 by guitarist Frank Marino. The band's name was inspired by the color of the wood used in the manufacture of guitars. Over the years, the band has gone through various lineup changes, with Frank Marino being the only constant member. Mahogany Rush is known for their heavy, guitar-driven sound that incorporates elements of hard rock, blues, and jazz. Frank Marino's virtuosic guitar playing and soulful vocals have been a hallmark of the band's sound, and have drawn comparisons to other guitar legends such as Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen. The band's debut album, "Maxoom," was released in 1972 and showcased the group's raw, bluesy sound. Over the years, the band has released several other albums, including "Child of the Novelty" (1974), "Strange Universe" (1975), and "World Anthem" (1977), which featured the hit single "World Anthem." Mahogany Rush continued to release albums and tour throughout the 1980s and 1990s, although their popularity waned somewhat during this time. In recent years, the band has continued to tour and record new material, with Frank Marino still at the helm. How come I never heard these guys when they were making music? Frank Marino sounds very reminiscent of Jimi Hendrix (and what's wrong with that?)...amazing stuff from an under-appreciated guitarist.
