Mama Lion was a rock band that formed in the early 1970s. The band was fronted by Lynn Carey, a singer who had previously worked with Frank Zappa and collaborated with a number of other musicians in the Los Angeles music scene. Mama Lion's music was a blend of hard rock, blues, and psychedelic influences. The band released two albums in the early 1970s, "Preserve Wildlife" in 1972 and "Give It Everything I've Got" in 1973. Both albums were produced by Al Nalli and released on the Family Productions label. "Preserve Wildlife" featured a number of notable musicians, including guitarist Neil Merryweather, keyboardist Mark Tulin, and drummer Coffi Hall. The album's sound was characterized by heavy guitars, bluesy organ, and Lynn Carey's powerful vocals. Standout tracks included "Wildcat," "Candy Man," and "It's Only a Dream." "Give It Everything I've Got" was a more polished album, with a stronger focus on songwriting and arrangements. The album's sound was still rooted in bluesy hard rock, but featured more acoustic guitar and piano-based tracks. Highlights included "Mr. Invitation," "Crazy Place," and "Before You Go." Despite critical acclaim for their music, Mama Lion never achieved mainstream success and disbanded after the release of "Give It Everything I've Got." Lynn Carey continued to work as a musician and actor, appearing in films such as "The World's Greatest Lover" and "Laserblast." In recent years, Mama Lion's music has been rediscovered by a new generation of rock fans, and their albums have been reissued on CD and vinyl. C. K. Strong (1969 - 1970)
