The Outlaws
The Outlaws are a Southern rock band that was formed in Tampa, Florida in 1967. The band's original lineup consisted of Hughie Thomasson (guitar and vocals), Henry Paul (guitar and vocals), Frank O'Keefe (bass), Monte Yoho (drums), and Billy Jones (guitar and vocals).
The Outlaws gained popularity in the 1970s with their unique blend of country, rock, and blues music. They are best known for their hits "Green Grass and High Tides" and "There Goes Another Love Song". The band's sound was characterized by their use of multiple guitars, intricate harmonies, and extended jams.
The Outlaws released several albums throughout the 1970s and 1980s, including their self-titled debut album in 1975, followed by "Lady in Waiting" (1976), "Hurry Sundown" (1977), and "Playin' to Win" (1978). They also had a number of successful singles during this time, including "Ghost Riders in the Sky" and "Take It Anyway You Want It".
Over the years, the band underwent several lineup changes and hiatuses, with various members leaving and returning. Hughie Thomasson passed away in 2007, but the band continued to tour and record with new members.
The Outlaws remain a popular live act and are considered one of the pioneers of the Southern rock genre, along with bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers Band, and Molly Hatchet.
