Paul Revere and The Raiders
Paul Revere and the Raiders were a popular American rock band in the 1960s. The band was formed in 1958 in Boise, Idaho as The Downbeats, by Paul Revere (born Paul Revere Dick), who played keyboards and was the group's leader. The other original members were Mark Lindsay (lead vocals), Drake Levin (guitar), Mike Smith (drums), and Phil Volk (bass guitar).
The band achieved great success in the mid-1960s with their hits like "Just Like Me," "Kicks," "Hungry," and "Good Thing." They were known for their energetic performances, catchy tunes, and signature outfits that included colonial costumes and tri-corner hats.
Paul Revere and the Raiders were part of the "garage rock" movement of the mid-1960s, which was characterized by its raw, stripped-down sound and DIY ethos. The band's music was heavily influenced by rhythm and blues, and they were known for their driving, guitar-heavy sound and catchy hooks.
In addition to their musical success, Paul Revere and the Raiders were also popular on television, appearing on shows like "Where the Action Is" and "Happening '68," and they were featured in several movies, including "Out of Sight" and "Ride the Wild Surf."
Although the band experienced a decline in popularity in the late 1960s, they continued to tour and record throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Paul Revere and the Raiders were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015. Paul Revere passed away in 2014, but Mark Lindsay and Phil Volk continue to perform as "The Raiders" with other musicians.
