Rare Earth

Rare Earth is an American rock band that was formed in 1960 in Detroit, Michigan. The group is known for their fusion of rock, soul, and funk music, and for their energetic live performances.

The band was originally called The Sunliners, but changed their name to Rare Earth in 1968. They were signed to Motown Records and released their first album, "Dreams/Answers," in 1968. The album received moderate success, but it was their follow-up, "Get Ready," that really put them on the map.

"Get Ready" was released in 1969 and became a huge hit, reaching No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song is known for its extended jam section, which is often included in the band's live performances. Other popular songs by Rare Earth include "I Just Want to Celebrate," "Hey Big Brother," and "Born to Wander."

Rare Earth is also known for being one of the first all-white bands signed to Motown Records, which was primarily known for promoting African-American artists at the time. The band members were all skilled musicians, and their diverse influences helped them create a unique sound that blended rock, soul, and funk in a way that appealed to a wide audience.

While Rare Earth's popularity waned in the 1970s, the band continued to perform and release albums throughout the decade and beyond. Today, their music remains popular with fans of classic rock and soul music.

Hard-rockin' white-soul band from Detroit, Michigan, USA.  I believe they were the only all-white band signed to the Motown label.  Thanks to Tom White and Thomas Doerr for helping me with the lineup from the 1980s to Present. -GSH
