The Rockets were a rock and roll band from Detroit, Michigan, formed in 1972 by guitarist Jim McCarty and drummer Johnny "Bee" Badanjek, both of whom had previously played in the influential rock group Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels. The Rockets also included lead singer Dave Gilbert, and bassist John Fraga. The band released their self-titled debut album in 1979 on RSO Records. The album featured a mix of rock and roll, R&B, and blues influences, and included the single "Oh Well," a cover of the Fleetwood Mac song. The Rockets' version of "Oh Well" received significant airplay on radio stations across the United States, and the album reached #60 on the Billboard 200 chart. The Rockets continued to release albums throughout the 1980s, including "No Ballads" (1980), "Back Talk" (1983), and "Live Rockets" (1984). However, despite critical acclaim and a dedicated fanbase, the band never achieved mainstream commercial success. In the late 1980s, the band underwent several personnel changes and eventually disbanded. However, they reunited for a series of shows in the late 2000s and released a new album, "The Rockets Ride Again," in 2011. Overall, The Rockets were a talented rock and roll band with a sound that blended various musical influences, including R&B, blues, and classic rock. While they never achieved the commercial success of some of their peers, their music has continued to be influential and appreciated by fans of rock and roll. The Rockets I (1976 - 1978)
