Sparks is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1967. The band was founded by brothers Ron Mael (keyboards) and Russell Mael (vocals), and has gone through various line-up changes over the years. Sparks' music is known for its witty and often surreal lyrics, catchy melodies, and eclectic musical influences. They have been associated with various genres over the years, including glam rock, art rock, synth-pop, and new wave. The band's early albums, such as "Kimono My House" (1974) and "Propaganda" (1974), are considered classics of the glam rock era. They achieved commercial success in the UK in the late 1970s with their album "No. 1 In Heaven" (1979), which featured a more electronic sound produced by Giorgio Moroder. Sparks have continued to release albums and tour throughout their career, with notable releases including "Angst in My Pants" (1982), "Gratuitous Sax & Senseless Violins" (1994), and "Hippopotamus" (2017). They have also collaborated with various artists, including Franz Ferdinand on the album "FFS" (2015). Sparks' influence can be heard in the music of many other artists, including Pet Shop Boys, Björk, and The Smiths. The band has also been praised for their innovative music videos, which often feature Russell Mael's distinctive high-pitched vocals and Ron Mael's deadpan expression. Sparks (1968 - present)
