The band was founded by husband-and-wife team Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi, both of whom were already established musicians in their own right. Derek Trucks is a slide guitarist who has played with acts such as The Allman Brothers Band and Eric Clapton, while Susan Tedeschi is a singer and guitarist who has released several solo albums.
