The Hoax is a British blues rock band that formed in the early 1990s. The band's members include vocalist and harp player Hugh Coltman, guitarists Jesse Davey and Jon Amor, bassist Robin Davey, and drummer Dave Raeburn. The Hoax gained popularity in the UK blues scene in the early 1990s, releasing their debut album "Sound Like This" in 1994. The album received critical acclaim and helped the band establish a loyal fan base. The Hoax's music is heavily influenced by blues legends such as Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, and John Lee Hooker, as well as by more contemporary blues rock artists like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix. The band's second album, "Humdinger," was released in 1996 and featured a more polished sound than their debut. The Hoax continued to tour extensively throughout the UK and Europe, and in 1998 they released a live album titled "Live Forever." The band released one more studio album, "Big City Blues," in 2000 before going on hiatus. The Hoax reunited in 2017 for a series of shows to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their debut album. The band has continued to play occasional shows since then, but they have not released any new music. Despite this, The Hoax remains a beloved band in the UK blues scene, known for their high-energy live performances and their ability to blend traditional blues with modern rock influences.
