Thunderclap Newman was a British rock band that formed in 1969. The band consisted of three members: pianist and guitarist Andy "Thunderclap" Newman, drummer John "Speedy" Keen, and guitarist and bassist Jimmy McCulloch. The band was produced by Pete Townshend of The Who, who discovered the band after hearing their song "Accidents" on a demo tape. The band's most famous song is "Something in the Air," which was released in 1969 and became a hit in both the UK and the US. The song features a catchy piano riff, psychedelic guitar work, and socially conscious lyrics that reflected the counterculture of the time. Despite the success of "Something in the Air," Thunderclap Newman only released one album, also titled "Hollywood Dream," in 1970 before disbanding. However, the band's members went on to have successful careers in the music industry. Keen wrote several songs for The Who and also released solo albums, while McCulloch played with Paul McCartney's Wings and later joined the reformed Small Faces. Newman continued to record music and perform live until his death in 2016. Thunderclap Newman's music has been described as a blend of rock, pop, and psychedelia, with political and social themes. The band's short-lived career and unique sound have made them a cult favorite among music fans. One-hit-wonder band created by Pete Townshend (The Who) -GSH. Thunderclap Newman I (1969)
