Tony Joe White
Tony Joe White was an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist who was born on July 23, 1943, in Oak Grove, Louisiana, and passed away on October 24, 2018. He was best known for his unique blend of blues, country, and rock music, which was often characterized by his deep, growling voice and his swampy, funky guitar riffs.
White began his music career in the 1960s, playing in various bands in Louisiana and Texas before signing a recording contract with Monument Records in 1968. He released his debut album, "Black and White," later that year, which included his most famous song, "Polk Salad Annie." The song, which tells the story of a girl who grows up in the Louisiana bayou, became a hit and reached the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Throughout his career, White continued to write and record music, releasing a total of 20 studio albums. Some of his other notable songs include "Rainy Night in Georgia," "Steamy Windows," and "I Get Off on It." He also wrote songs for other artists, including Elvis Presley, Tina Turner, and Brook Benton.
White was admired by many musicians for his distinctive style and unique sound, and he was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2007.

DVDs and Videos:
- "Tony Joe White - In Concert" (2003) - DVD
- "Live from Ausin TX" (2006) - DVD - recorded live on "Austin City Limits" December 5, 1980. Fantastic show (63 min.) featuring Tony Joe White (guitar, vocals, and harmonica), Steve Spear (bass), and Jeff Hale (drums). On most of the songs, Tony plays his trademark "whomper-stomper" electric guitar, but on three songs ("Willie and Laura Mae Jones", "Billy", and "Lustful Earl and the Married Woman") he plays solo with only his acoustic guitar and harmonica. The other songs included in this show are "Mama Don't Let Your Cowboys Grow Up To Be Babies", "Disco Blues", "Red Neck Women", "Rainy Night In Georgia", "Even Trolls Love Rock N Roll", "Swamp Rap", "I Came Here To Party", "Polk Salad Annie", "That's The Way A Cowboy Rocks And Rolls", "300 Pounds Of Hongry", and "I Get Off On It". This show followed the release of his 1980 album "The Real Thang"
and several of these songs are from that album. The performance, video,
and audio quality are excellent. My foot was tapping and I was grinning
throughout the entire performance. If you like Tony Joe White's music, this is a must-have. Highly recommended.
