The Traveling Wilburys were a supergroup formed in 1988 by five iconic musicians: George Harrison of The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Jeff Lynne of Electric Light Orchestra, and Roy Orbison. The group came together by happenstance, as Harrison was working on a B-side for one of his singles and needed a second song. He called up Lynne and asked him to help out, and soon the two had recruited Petty, Dylan, and Orbison to work on the track with them. The Wilburys released two albums during their brief existence: "Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1" in 1988 and "Traveling Wilburys Vol. 3" in 1990 (there was no "Vol. 2" - the band decided to skip it as a joke). Both albums were critically acclaimed and commercially successful, featuring a mix of rock, folk, and country influences and showcasing the talents of each of the band members. Tragically, Roy Orbison passed away in 1988, shortly after the release of the first album, and the remaining members of the band decided not to continue without him. However, the Traveling Wilburys remain a beloved and influential group in the history of rock music, and their music continues to be enjoyed by fans around the world. Orbison dies December 6, 1988. The Traveling Wilburys II (1988 - 1991)
