Vanilla Fudge is an American rock band that was formed in 1966 in Long Island, New York. The band is known for their heavy, psychedelic sound, which was characterized by their use of Hammond organ, distorted guitar, and a rhythm section that featured a heavy, driving beat. The original lineup of Vanilla Fudge consisted of Mark Stein on keyboards and lead vocals, Vince Martell on guitar, Tim Bogert on bass guitar, and Carmine Appice on drums. The band's early performances consisted largely of covers of popular songs, which they would transform with their own unique sound and arrangements. In 1967, Vanilla Fudge released their self-titled debut album, which featured their hit cover of the Supremes' "You Keep Me Hangin' On." The song reached number 6 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and helped to establish Vanilla Fudge as a major force in the psychedelic rock scene. Over the years, Vanilla Fudge has released several more albums and undergone numerous lineup changes, but they have continued to perform and record music to this day. Some of their other notable songs include "Season of the Witch," "Shotgun," and "Take Me for a Little While." The Pigeons I (1966)
