Bloodrock

Bloodrock was an American rock band formed, originally as The Naturals in 1963, in Fort Worth, Texas. The band, after a name change to Crowd +1 then finally to Bloodrock, consisted of Jim Rutledge (vocals), Lee Pickens (guitar), Nick Taylor (guitar), Ed Grundy (bass), and Stevie Hill (drums).

Bloodrock gained popularity in the early 1970s with their hard rock sound, heavy use of organ and guitar, and lyrics that often dealt with dark or morbid subject matter. Their most successful album was their self-titled debut, released in 1970, which included the hit single "D.O.A.", a song about a man who wakes up on an airplane to find that everyone else on board is dead.

The band went on to release several more albums throughout the 1970s, including "Bloodrock 2", "Bloodrock 3", "Bloodrock USA", "Whirlwind Tongues", and "Passage". However, despite their initial success, Bloodrock never achieved the same level of commercial or critical acclaim as some of their peers in the hard rock genre.

Tragically, in 1984, Lee Pickens was shot and killed during a robbery at his recording studio in Fort Worth, effectively ending the band's chances of ever reuniting. Bloodrock's legacy lives on through their music, which continues to be appreciated by fans of hard rock and heavy metal.

Hartman Recommends:
My favorite Bloodrock albums are "Bloodrock 2" and "Bloodrock 3".  Both represent the band at the height of their musicianship and creativity.  "Bloodrock 3" has a little tighter and jazzier sound, and contains several great songs ("Jessica", "Breach of Lease", and "Kool-Aid-Kids").  This is classic '70s hard rock.
