Grand Funk Railroad is an American rock band that was formed in 1969 in Flint, Michigan. The band was originally composed of three members: Mark Farner on vocals and guitar, Don Brewer on drums and vocals, and Mel Schacher on bass. Grand Funk Railroad is known for their hard-driving rock and roll sound, which incorporates elements of blues, soul, and funk music. The band's debut album, "On Time," was released in 1969 and featured the hit single "Time Machine." Their subsequent albums, including "Grand Funk" (1970), "Closer to Home" (1970), and "Survival" (1971), helped establish Grand Funk Railroad as one of the most popular and successful rock bands of the early 1970s. Grand Funk Railroad's live shows were also a major part of their appeal. The band was known for their energetic and electrifying performances, which often featured elaborate lighting and pyrotechnics. They were also one of the first rock bands to perform at large outdoor venues, including Shea Stadium and the Atlanta International Pop Festival. Despite their success, Grand Funk Railroad was also a controversial band. They were often criticized by music critics for their simplistic lyrics and heavy reliance on power chords. However, their popularity with fans remained strong, and they continued to release hit albums throughout the 1970s, including "We're an American Band" (1973) and "Shinin' On" (1974). Grand Funk Railroad went through a number of personnel changes over the years, and eventually disbanded in 1976. However, the band reformed in the 1990s and continues to perform to this day, with Brewer and Schacher as the only remaining original members. Terry Knight and the Pack (1966 - ? )
