Blue Öyster Cult
Blue Öyster Cult is an American rock band formed in Long Island, New York in 1967. The band's original lineup consisted of Eric Bloom (vocals, guitar), Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser (guitar, vocals), Allen Lanier (keyboards, guitar), Joe Bouchard (bass, vocals), and Albert Bouchard (drums, vocals).
Blue Öyster Cult is known for their hard rock sound that incorporates elements of heavy metal, psychedelic rock, and progressive rock. They have released 14 studio albums and have sold over 24 million records worldwide. Some of their most popular songs include "Don't Fear the Reaper," "Godzilla," "Burnin' for You," and "Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll."
The band has had a significant impact on the development of heavy metal and hard rock music, influencing many bands that came after them. Their music is often characterized by intricate guitar work, intelligent lyrics, and a dark, mysterious sound. They are also known for their use of science fiction and horror imagery in their lyrics and album artwork.
Blue Öyster Cult continues to tour and perform, although with a different lineup than their original one. They were inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame in 2006 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020.

Albums:
- "Blue
Oyster Cult" (1972) - Single: "Cities on Flame with Rock
'n Roll" - Without a doubt, one of the strongest debut efforts I've ever
heard...by anybody. Roeser's guitar work on this album totally blew
me away, and I've still never heard anything to surpass it. There's
not a weak cut on this album. For fans of heavy guitar, you can't be
without this.
- "Tyranny
and Mutation" (1973)
- "Secret
Treaties" (1974) - Single: "Career of Evil"
- "Blue
Oyster Cult / Tyranny and Mutation / Secret Treaties" (box set)
(1996) - BOC's first three albums wrapped up in a neat package, a great way
to get these great albums at a reasonable price.
- "On
Your Feet or On Your Knees" (live) (1975) - I used to own this
album, but destroyed my copy because of the Nazi and anti-Christian symbolism
on the jacket. Having seen this band a couple of times, I always thought
they were better live than they came across on this album.
- "Agents
of Fortune" (1976) - Singles: "(Don't Fear) The Reaper",
"This Ain't the Summer of Love"
- "Spectres"

Hartman Recommends:
The first three albums, "Blue
Oyster Cult", "Tyranny
and Mutation", and "Secret
Treaties" are absolutely essential, and you can get all three
of these in a 1996
box set. If you're looking for a compilation, go with the
1995 2-CD set "Workshop
of the Telescopes".
