Detective was a rock band that formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1974. The group was originally composed of Michael Des Barres (vocals), Michael Monarch (guitar), Bobby Pickett (bass), Tony Kaye (keyboards), and Jon Hyde (drums). The band's sound was heavily influenced by blues and hard rock, and they quickly gained a reputation for their high-energy live performances. In 1975, Detective released their self-titled debut album, which was produced by Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page. The album received positive reviews and spawned a minor hit with the single "It Takes One to Know One." The band's second album, "It Takes One to Know One," was released in 1977, but it failed to generate the same level of success as their debut. Despite their critical acclaim, Detective struggled to find commercial success, and the band dissolved in 1978. Des Barres went on to have a successful career as an actor and musician, while Monarch joined the band Steppenwolf. Although they only released two albums during their brief career, Detective's music has continued to influence generations of hard rock and heavy metal musicians. The band's sound was characterized by their powerful guitar riffs, bluesy vocals, and tight rhythm section, which helped establish them as one of the most exciting and innovative bands of their era. Late 1970s hard rock band. Thanks to Jim Davenport for this information. -GSH Detective (1976 - 1978)
