Derek and the Dominos was a blues rock band formed in 1970 by guitarist and singer-songwriter Eric Clapton. The band's other members included keyboardist and singer-songwriter Bobby Whitlock, bassist Carl Radle, and drummer Jim Gordon. Derek and the Dominos released only one album, "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs," which is widely considered a classic of blues rock. The album includes the hit songs "Layla" and "Bell Bottom Blues," both of which were written by Clapton and Whitlock. The band's name was inspired by a nickname that Clapton had adopted during his time with the group Blind Faith. Clapton had used the name "Derek" as a pseudonym for his work with that group, and he carried it over to his new project with the Dominos. Despite critical acclaim for their album, Derek and the Dominos were short-lived, with Clapton disbanding the group in 1971 due to personal issues and drug addiction. The group's legacy has endured, however, with "Layla" in particular becoming one of Clapton's most iconic songs and a fixture of classic rock radio. Derek and the Dominos (1970 - late 1971)
