Earth Opera was an American psychedelic folk rock band that formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1967. The group was founded by Peter Rowan (vocals, guitar) and David Grisman (mandolin, vocals), who had previously played together in a bluegrass band called The Even Dozen Jug Band. Earth Opera released their self-titled debut album in 1968 on the Elektra Records label. The album featured a mix of psychedelic and folk influences, with intricate instrumentation and complex vocal harmonies. The band's sound was characterized by Rowan's soulful vocals, Grisman's virtuosic mandolin playing, and a blend of acoustic and electric instruments. The band released two more albums, "The Great American Eagle Tragedy" in 1969 and "The Red Sox Album" in 1970, before disbanding in 1971. Both albums continued the band's eclectic blend of folk, rock, and psychedelic influences, with songs that tackled themes of politics, spirituality, and social justice. Despite their relatively short career, Earth Opera was influential in the development of psychedelic folk and progressive bluegrass, and their music continues to be appreciated by fans of the genre. Peter Rowan went on to have a successful solo career as a singer-songwriter, while David Grisman became a respected figure in the world of bluegrass and acoustic music. Earth Opera I (1967 - 1969)
