Keith Emerson was an English musician and composer, best known as the keyboardist and founding member of the progressive rock bands The Nice and Emerson, Lake & Palmer (ELP). Born on November 2, 1944, in Todmorden, West Yorkshire, England, Emerson was recognized as a prodigious keyboardist from a young age and received classical training at the Royal College of Music in London. In the late 1960s, Emerson formed The Nice, a pioneering progressive rock band that incorporated elements of classical music into their sound. The band released several albums and became known for their dynamic live performances. In 1970, Emerson left The Nice and joined forces with Greg Lake (bass, vocals) and Carl Palmer (drums) to form ELP. ELP quickly became one of the most successful and influential progressive rock bands of the 1970s, releasing a string of critically acclaimed albums, including "Emerson, Lake & Palmer," "Tarkus," and "Brain Salad Surgery." Emerson's virtuosic keyboard playing, which combined classical technique with innovative use of electronic instruments, was a defining feature of the band's sound. In addition to his work with The Nice and ELP, Emerson also released several solo albums and collaborated with other musicians, including guitarist Jeff "Skunk" Baxter and drummer Cozy Powell. He was also involved in several film and television projects, composing music for movies like "Inferno" and "Nighthawks" and for TV shows like "Iron Chef USA" and "Hells Kitchen." Tragically, Keith Emerson passed away on March 11, 2016, at the age of 71. His contributions to the world of music, particularly in the realm of progressive rock, have left a lasting legacy and inspired countless musicians. The Keith Emerson Trio ( ? - ? )
