Atomic Rooster
Atomic Rooster was a British progressive rock band that was active from 1969 to 1975. The band was formed by Vincent Crane (keyboards) and Carl Palmer (drums), who had both previously played together in the group The Crazy World of Arthur Brown. They were later joined by Nick Graham (bass) and the band released their debut self-titled album in 1970.
The band's music was characterized by its heavy use of Hammond organ and synthesizers, combined with a hard rock sound. Their early albums, including "Death Walks Behind You" and "In Hearing Of," were critically acclaimed and established them as one of the leading acts of the progressive rock movement.
In 1971, Carl Palmer left the band to join Emerson, Lake & Palmer, and was replaced by Paul Hammond. The band continued to release music and tour, but struggled to replicate their early success. Vincent Crane also battled with mental health issues, which affected the band's stability.
The original lineup of Atomic Rooster disbanded in 1975, but Crane continued to perform and record music under the Atomic Rooster name with various lineups until his death in 1989. The band's influence can be heard in the music of many contemporary rock and metal bands, and their legacy continues to be celebrated by fans of progressive and hard rock music.
