Audience

Audience was formed in London by Howard Werth (vocals and guitar), Keith Gemmell (saxophone and clarinet), Tony Connor (drums), and Trevor Williams (bass). They were known for their intricate melodies, complex arrangements, and eclectic musical influences, which ranged from jazz to folk to classical.

The band released their debut album, "Audience," in 1969, which received critical acclaim and established them as an up-and-coming force in the British music scene. They went on to release several more albums over the course of the 1970s, including "Friend's Friend's Friend," "House on the Hill," and "Lunch."

Despite their critical success, Audience never achieved widespread commercial success, and they disbanded in 1972. However, their music has continued to be influential and has gained a cult following over the years.

In 2018, Howard Werth formed a new version of Audience, with a new lineup of musicians, and has been touring and recording new music under the name.

Creative, inventive, and "out-of-the-box" (hey, I know I'm being redundant but what-the-heck...I like these guys) progressive rock from England combining acoustic guitar and wind instruments. -GSH

Hartman Recommends:
Audience's third album "The House on the Hill" is one of my favorite albums of all time.  The acoustic guitar work sounds great mixed with the sax and flute and Williams's HEAVY bass guitar, and the vocals are different and distinctive.  If you think you've heard everything before (except this), you've truly missed something.  Buy this album!
