Greg Lake was a British musician and songwriter who was best known as the bassist, guitarist, and vocalist for the progressive rock bands King Crimson and Emerson, Lake & Palmer (ELP). He was born on November 10, 1947, in Poole, Dorset, England, and passed away on December 7, 2016, at the age of 69. Lake first gained fame as a founding member of the band King Crimson in 1969, which is considered one of the pioneers of the progressive rock genre. He played bass, guitar, and provided lead vocals on their debut album "In the Court of the Crimson King," which is regarded as one of the most influential progressive rock albums of all time. After leaving King Crimson in 1970, Lake formed Emerson, Lake & Palmer with keyboardist Keith Emerson and drummer Carl Palmer. The band quickly became one of the most successful and influential progressive rock bands of the 1970s, known for their intricate musical arrangements and theatrical stage shows. Lake played bass, guitar, and provided lead vocals for the band, and also contributed to their songwriting.
