Asia
Asia is a British rock band that was formed in 1981. The original lineup consisted of four members: John Wetton on bass and vocals, Steve Howe on guitar, Geoff Downes on keyboards, and Carl Palmer on drums. The band was considered a "supergroup" because its members had previously played in successful bands such as Yes, King Crimson, and Emerson, Lake & Palmer.
Asia's self-titled debut album, released in 1982, was a massive commercial success, selling over 10 million copies worldwide. The album featured the hit singles "Heat of the Moment" and "Only Time Will Tell," which helped to cement the band's popularity.
Asia's music is often described as a blend of progressive rock, pop, and AOR (Album-Oriented Rock), with a heavy emphasis on melodic hooks and catchy choruses. The band's sound was also characterized by Downes' use of synthesizers and other electronic instruments.
Despite numerous lineup changes over the years, Asia continued to release albums and tour throughout the 1980s and 1990s. However, the band's popularity declined in the 2000s, and they are now considered a "legacy" act.
Some of Asia's other notable songs include "Don't Cry," "The Smile Has Left Your Eyes," and "Sole Survivor." The band has also been praised for its musicianship and songwriting, with critics noting their ability to create memorable melodies and catchy hooks.
