Little Feat

Little Feat is an American rock band that was formed in 1969 in Los Angeles, California. The band's music is a blend of rock and roll, blues, R&B, funk, and country. Their unique sound has been described as "Southern-fried boogie" and "bayou rock."

The original lineup of Little Feat consisted of Lowell George (guitar, vocals), Roy Estrada (bass, vocals), Richie Hayward (drums, vocals), and Bill Payne (keyboards, vocals). The band's debut album, self-titled "Little Feat," was released in 1971 and featured the hit single "Willin'."

Over the years, the band has undergone numerous lineup changes and has released a total of 16 studio albums, including such classics as "Sailin' Shoes," "Dixie Chicken," and "Feats Don't Fail Me Now."

One of the defining features of Little Feat's music is the interplay between the various instruments, particularly George's slide guitar work and Payne's keyboard playing. The band's songs often have a loose, improvisational feel, which has made them popular among both musicians and fans.

Unfortunately, Lowell George died in 1979, but the band continued on with various lineups and released several more albums.

Quite possibly the "tightest" band I've ever seen live. I saw them with Lowell George in Knoxville, Tennessee, on "The Last Record Album" tour (with inflatable cacti...I'll never forget hearing Lowell George exclaim "Get that cactus up!" in the middle of a song when stage hands were trying to inflate a cactus). They're still an amazing live band with their current lineup. -GSH

Hartman Recommends:
Do you think Little Feat's great music ended after the death of Lowell George?...better check out "Let It Roll" with Craig Fuller.  And do you think the same thing after the departure of Craig Fuller?...check out "Live From Neon Park" and "Under the Radar" with "new" vocalist Shaun Murphy (who has been singing backup vocals with the band since 1988 and lead vocals since 1995...she can belt it out with the best of 'em).  These folks just keep getting better and better...there just ain't no stoppin' this band!  And don't forget their classic live album from the Lowell George days, "Waiting for Columbus".
