The Turtles
The Turtles were an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1965. The band's original lineup consisted of lead vocalists Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman, guitarists Al Nichol and Jim Tucker, bassist Chuck Portz, and drummer Don Murray.
The Turtles were known for their upbeat, catchy pop songs that often incorporated elements of folk, rock, and psychedelic music. Their music was heavily influenced by the British Invasion bands of the time, particularly The Beatles. They scored several hits in the 1960s, including "Happy Together," "She'd Rather Be with Me," "Elenore," and "You Showed Me."
One of the distinctive features of The Turtles was the vocal harmonies of Kaylan and Volman, which helped to set them apart from other bands of the era. The band's sound was also characterized by the use of acoustic instruments, such as acoustic guitars and mandolins, which gave their music a unique, organic feel.
The Turtles disbanded in 1970, but Kaylan and Volman continued to perform together under the name "Flo and Eddie." They also worked as session musicians and collaborated with a wide range of artists, including Frank Zappa, T. Rex, and Bruce Springsteen.
The Turtles' music has remained popular over the years and has been featured in numerous movies, TV shows, and commercials. In 2010, The Turtles were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, recognizing their contribution to the development of vocal harmony in popular music. Their music continues to be popular with fans of 1960s pop.
