Mountain was an American rock band formed in Long Island, New York in 1969. The band was originally formed by guitarist Leslie West and bassist/vocalist Felix Pappalardi, both of whom had previously worked together in the band called "The Vagrants." Mountain is best known for their hit song "Mississippi Queen," which was released in 1970 and became a classic rock staple. The song features Leslie West's distinctive guitar riff and powerful vocals, and it has been covered by many other artists over the years. In addition to "Mississippi Queen," Mountain released several other albums during the 1970s, including "Climbing!" (which featured the hit song), "Nantucket Sleighride," and "Flowers of Evil." The band's sound was heavily influenced by blues and hard rock, and they were known for their powerful live performances. Unfortunately, Mountain disbanded in 1972 due to personal and creative differences between West and Pappalardi. Pappalardi was tragically killed in 1983 by his wife, who was convicted of his murder. However, Leslie West continued to perform and record music throughout his career, and he remained a beloved figure in the rock community until his death in 2020.
