Steve Miller / Steve Miller Band

Steve Miller is an American musician, singer, and songwriter who was born on October 5, 1943, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He is best known for his work with the Steve Miller Band, a group that formed in the late 1960s and went on to become one of the most successful and influential bands of the era.

Miller grew up in a musical family and started playing the guitar at a young age. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he formed his first band, The Ardells. After a brief stint in New York City, he moved to San Francisco in the mid-1960s and began performing with a group called The Marksmen.

In 1967, Miller formed the Steve Miller Band and released their debut album, "Children of the Future." The band's sound blended elements of blues, rock, and psychedelic music and they quickly gained a following in the Bay Area music scene. Over the next few years, the Steve Miller Band released a string of successful albums, including "Sailor," "Brave New World," and "Your Saving Grace."

In the mid-1970s, the band's sound shifted towards a more pop-oriented direction and they had some of their biggest hits, including "The Joker," "Fly Like an Eagle," and "Take the Money and Run." Miller's distinctive guitar playing and catchy melodies made him one of the most recognizable voices of the era.

After the Steve Miller Band disbanded in the early 1980s, Miller continued to perform and record as a solo artist. He has released numerous albums and has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In addition to his music career, Miller is also an avid collector of art and has curated exhibitions of his collection.
